Ubuntu 9.04 WM6.1 ActiveSync Synce OpenSync HTC Touch Diamond Evolution

Synce Evolution WM6

I have been stuffing around with this trying to sync a HTC Touch Diamond with WM6 loaded to Evolution running on Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04

I have arrived at the realisation that it does not work at his time.

Setting the basics and browsing the device from Ubuntu is easy and works well if this is what you want.

I have followed every forum and how-to I can find in an effort to sync the mobile phone with the evolution contacts and it simply does not work. I see a few sites claiming they are syncing with evolution via synce opensync and WM6 but at this stage after wasting 3-4 days and being forced to return to outlook remain totally unconvinced.

If like me you have tried and arrived at the same conclusion, following are some command lines to help clean up;

sudo apt-get remove synce-trayicon synce-gvfs

sudo apt-get remove multisync-tools opensync-plugin-evolution opensync-plugin-synce

sudo apt-get remove synce-hal librra0-tools librapi2-tools

Following this go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager and type sync in the search and find and remove anything else you wont need any more.

Looks as if it is back to outlook for a while longer at least that is set-up on a virtual server in Ubuntu but still very keen to be rid of outlook all together as soon as an alternative is available.

Next time though I will be testing on an OS running on a VM and an older PPC.

Also tried syncing with Schedule world and synevolution but everytime I have tried this I end up with contacts doubled up and calendar entries multipled anywhere from twice to 6 or more times.

I have now setup a workable synchronisation using Gmail Thunderbird Lightning Virtualbox Zindus and Google Calendar Sync
