Exchanging Quality Links
And checking that you have not been ripped off later.
For some time I have been using Linkmachine from Iron Zog on 5 websites to ease the workload of exchanging and checking quality web site links.
Always seem to find some one out there who starts out with a quality link then tries to turn it into a one way link in their favour.
Recently the files created by Linkmachine started to execute as owner/group nobody/nobody on our Apache server which also lowered the files permission level preventing the script from executing further and displaying error messages and no functionality for the visitor.
I began to suspect this was occurring as a result of a recent upgrade to the VPS server recently which seems to have incorporated some security level changes and security enhancements.
After many hours (days) of checking and then a reply from the provider of our VPS we recompiled php to include suPHP then set the PHP handler from DSO to suPHP.
Upgrading WHM Apache To Use suPHP and PHP 5
Now Linkmachine has become rather unusable.
One account/site will not load at all.
Other sites are loading the linkmachine web admin interface but functionality is severely reduced to the point where linkmachine is mostly unusable.
One of the most annoying things encountered, is that on visiting the Linkmachine site after many hours of testing and trail and error elimination, only to be informed that all support requests will incur an up front fee of $5. What if there is a problem that is not the customers fault? I appreciate there may be some very painful and time wasting requests from time to time. All the same I do not think I will consider adding the software to another website with this policy in place.
Well finally got this problem resolved on my own. Not really sure exactly how though. Hate it when there is no firm answer to what the problem was.
After the server was reconpiled the Linkmachine interface was behaving very erratically on all sites. Changes to settings would not stick at all and after a few hours I gave up.
Returned to the problem the next day, went to the Linkmachine interface, entered the settings I was trying to enter a few hours ago and they actually stuck this time. I know many will say that it must have been the server still updating but the server was rebooted and cron was run the night before without any change.
To fix the account that was deactivated the install.php script had to be run again then that site
